Improving Fire Service Efficiency with Demand-Led rostering

Synopsis

The Fire Service is facing a considerable challenge in meeting its service and ridership levels within budgetary constraints. In response, each Fire and Rescue Service has developed its own Integrated Risk Management Plan to respond to and meet these challenges. The inefficiencies of the 4 watch structure provide a significant opportunity to meet these goals by adopting a Demand-Led Rostering approach coupled with a 5 Watch structure.

This document explains why this approach is both practical and acceptable to the Fire Service and its staff and presents a direct comparison between the 4 and 5-Watch structure providing empirical data based on actual implementations to show the benefits. It also outlines the process and stages a Fire Service would go through in assessing and implementing this new structure.
