Glossary

Baseline flexing
A method of incremental changes to an existing schedule using parameters such as shift start time and duration
Break rules
A set of rules defining staff entitlements to paid and unpaid breaks for incorporation into scheduling
Brownfield site
An existing site which has legacy issues which the scheduling process must adhere to or address
Demand
Collective term for the individual tasks which have to be completed to reach a defined service level
Effectiveness
Amount of scheduled time which addresses forecast demand
Estate
A definition of the make up of an organisation
Foot flow
The physical numbers of customers through an organisational node
Greenfield site
A new site, or a site with no legacy issues
Hierarchical organisational node
A organisational level in the hierarchy of a business
Ineffectiveness
Amount of scheduled time where there is no expected demand
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
Key Performance Indicators. A series of quantifiable measures to calculate the efficiency and service level of a schedule against demand
Operational Schedules
The short term reallocation of resource on a short to medium term basis due to changes to forecast demand or absence such as annual leave
Roster
Anonymous shifts which have been created to address demand
Schedule
The end product of matching demand and supply, with named rosters for a specified period of time
Service level
The cumulative term for demand related to activities impacting the customer experience
Skill
A collection of tasks
Super Users
Nominated individuals who have had the highest level of training in both the implementation and end use of a system with a view to become system owners
Task – Fixed
Individual items of work which collectively contribute to the demand profile but which are not dependant on a variable driver e.g. cleaning
Task – Primary
Where a task is the preferred task for a staff member
Task – Secondary
Where a task is able to be performed by a staff member, but where it is only used as an exception
Task – Variable
Individual items of work which collectively contribute to the demand profile where the resource required is driven by a variable driver e.g. check-out assistant
